The Crucifixion

1882
Stained glass
Church of the Assumption, Windsor, Ontario, Canada

This traditional treatment has a few unusual touches. Christ's customary crossed halo is replaced by one with a sort of shamrock design. St. Mary Magdalene kneels weeping at the foot of the cross as in so many earlier works, but with her hands covering her face. Above the scene are the medieval Arma Christi, the implements used in the Crucifixion, along with Veronica's veil.

As is not uncommon in Crucifixions of this period, John and Mary stand together rather than flanking the cross.
